The books we name

Two mill books sit at the front of this line: Banas Stones and Aura Stone (Aura Natural Landscapes). They are how we specify gauged pavers, cut flagstone, steps, and coping that have to look finished next to a Craft-Bilt cover or a Vista rail.

The rest of the outdoor project — retaining, shoreline, cottage stairs, garden walls — still wants natural armourstone, random flagstone, and cut flagstone from Ontario quarries and the other suppliers we already run for excavation and landscape work. We pick the stone for the job, not a single catalogue.

Supply and install. Base, drain, and freeze-thaw are part of the quote. A pallet on clay is not a patio.

Banas Stones

Family-owned under the Banas Group. Their own quarries and factories — sandstone, limestone, and granite — with a North American distribution centre in the GTA. Lifetime mill warranty language on structural integrity for pavers, coping, treads, steps, pier caps, and jumbo slabs (50-year structural). Freeze-thaw outdoor work is what the book is for.

Gauged pavers and sawn-edge flagstone — 12×24, 18×24, 24×24, 24×36, 24×48.
Random / quarry-cut flagstone — Basalt Black, Kota Blue, Lavender, Dove Grey, Slate Grey, brown.
Steps, risers, pool and wall coping, cobblestone, wall stone, jumbo slabs.
Finishes: natural, flamed, acid wash, sandblasted. Thicknesses typically 25–30 mm on pavers; thicker on steps.

Aura Natural Landscapes — the Aura Stone book. Domestic and imported sandstone, granite, marble, and bluestone with gauged thickness so a patio lays like a pavement, not a puzzle. Precut irregular flagging at a consistent 1½" so the organic look does not cost a week of shimming.

Natural armourstone

The wall that holds the lot

Quarried limestone or granite blocks for retaining, shoreline, fire-pit bases, and garden structure. Natural, guillotined, or sawn face. Set with the machine, drained, and battered so freeze-thaw does not walk it off the bank. This is already Basswood Inc. excavation work — now listed with the outdoor living finish.

Flagstone

Random, quarry-cut, cottage underfoot

Irregular slabs for paths, landings, and patios that should look gathered, not tiled. Thicknesses vary; we bed them on a real base. Banas random flagstone sits in this family when the colour book matters. Local quarry flag when the lot wants Ontario grey-buff.

Cut flagstone

Sawn edges. Tight joints. A finished patio.

Squared or rectangular flag with sawn edges — the walking surface beside a grill island, a sunroom door, or a Vista stair. Gauged Banas and Aura pavers live here. Cut Ontario flag when we want a local colour that still lays straight.

Which stone books do you specify?

Banas Stones and Aura Stone (Aura Natural Landscapes) are the two books we market on this line — pavers, flagstone, cut flagstone, steps, coping, and wall stone. Natural armourstone, random flagstone, and cut flagstone also come from Ontario quarries and other suppliers we already run for excavation and landscape work.

Do you only sell the stone, or set it?

Both. Basswood Inc. already moves armourstone on shoreline and retaining jobs. Flagstone patios, cut-flag walks, steps, and coping are quoted as supply and install with the grade, the base, and the drain — not a pallet dropped on clay.

What is the difference between flagstone and cut flagstone?

Random / quarry-cut flagstone is irregular — organic joints, garden paths, cottage patios. Cut flagstone (sawn edges, gauged thickness) lays in a tighter pattern: walkways, pool decks, outdoor kitchens. Aura’s gauged irregular flagging is a middle path — natural shape, consistent thickness.

Will armourstone stay put through freeze-thaw?

If the base, the batter, and the drain are right. We set armourstone with the machine, not dumped on a bank. Shoreline and structural walls follow the same earthwork standard as the rest of the Basswood Inc. yard.
